A Journal of Tibetan Literature, Arts and Humanities

Submissions

We primarily publish literary pieces and academic articles in English. We also welcome poetry, prose, performance, art, and fiction by Tibetan authors in Tibetan and Chinese languages. If your submission is cross-genre, we encourage you to send it to info@yeshe.org or editor@yeshe.org.

Please read the submission guidelines and general information before submitting your work.

Academic articles

Send us academic articles of 3000-8000 words on topics related to Tibetan literature, arts, and humanities. Each article must include five keywords and an abstract of 250-300 words, use endnotes and follow the MLA 8 for citations. See general information for formatting guidelines. Omit your name from the text of your article, for each submission will undergo a blind peer-review.

Reviews

Send us reviews of 1000-1500 words of works related to Tibet. Follow endnotes and the MLA 8 for citations. We prefer reviews of books published in the last two years, but occasionally we accept reviews of older works that may not have received the critical attention they deserve. If you are a publisher or an author interested in getting your work reviewed, send us preliminary information about the book.

Poetry

Please send up to five poems of any form in traditional or experimental styles in English, Tibetan, or Chinese. Translations in English of classical as well as contemporary Tibetan poetry are also accepted. Poems should be unpublished in English or if previously published, not available online.

Prose

We welcome submissions of original or unpublished translated prose works in English, Tibetan, or Chinese. Prose pieces may come in a variety of forms, including—but not limited to—creative essays, non-academic articles, and political, social, and cultural commentaries or reflections. We accept prose submissions of any length, though 5000 words or less is preferred.

Fiction

Submit one short story in Tibetan, English, or Chinese. We accept stories of varying lengths, but any piece of more than 8000 words will be published in two parts. Your story should be unpublished in English but can be previously published in Tibetan or Chinese.

Interviews

We welcome engaging interview pitches or finished interviews of Tibetan authors, Tibet specialists, and translators.

Arts

We welcome submissions not limited to but including photo-essays, artist profiles, exhibition reviews, and critical writing on Tibetan contemporary art of up to 3000-word limit. We particularly welcome and privilege Tibetan voices to reflect on art, material heritage, and museum representations. High-resolution images in JPEG (.jpg) or TIF (.tif) formats are acceptable with no watermarks or timestamps and maximum image file size being 10MB.

Performance

We welcome submissions of English language translations of Tibetan works meant to be performed or related to performance. This includes, but is not limited to transcripts of oral performances, song lyrics, scripts, interviews with playwrights or tradition-bearers, and lectures on topics related to oral traditions and other performance forms.

Special Issues

Proposals for Special Issues are welcome at any time during the year. The proposals could pertain to, but are not limited to, theme-based issues and conference notes and proceedings. Please send the suggested title and an overview of the Special Issue’s intended focus to info@yeshe.org and editor@yeshe.org
